Misty Mouse's CRITTER CHATTER

Misty Mouse has a lot to say...

Indian summer has come and gone at Misty Meadows and the Critters were lively as ever.  One evening, Madame de le Odeur was searching the grounds for grubs to eat.  She must have found a lot because she put on a lot of weight for the long winter.  I squeaked at her several times, she looked up and winked then returned to the grubs.

Gertrude the Groundhog was out of her burrow, munching on the remaining green grass near the studio.  She also became larger for her long winter sleep.  Don’t you dare tell her that I mentioned she was fat because she will chase me all over Misty Meadows.  In truth, she became so fat I could have out- run her.

Constable Dobbins was also munching on the remaining green grass as he wandered the Meadows making sure all was well.  He was often joined by the blue jays that will spend the winter days flying over the Meadows to make sure there isn’t any Danger.

Inspector Goot spent the sunny days lying on the studio deck or in his favorite chair in the Pirates’ Cove.  When the nights are cold, Goot stays inside the studio and watches some woman draw critters that look very familiar to me.

Well it’s time for ole Misty Mouse to go snuggle up with a good book.  Talk with you all later…MM………….

Misty Mouse's CRITTER CHATTER

Groundhogs at Misty Meadows Preserve!Groundhogs are really interesting critters.  Gertrude, the resident groundhog here on Misty Meadows, is a lot of fun to watch.  Her favorite tree is the crab apple that is located near her home which is under Misty Meadows Studio.  She picks up the apple with her front paws; then, sits up on her back legs and bum and begins to eat.  She takes bites of the apple while turning it with her front paws, just like some humans eat corn on the cob.  I watched her eat 4 apples; no wonder she's fat!  HEY!  Don't tell her I said that because she will chase me all over the meadows!  When she does chase and catch me, she gently turns me over to rub my tummy with her cold nose just to hear me giggle and laugh.  Today, Gertrude was stuffed with apples so she could not chase anyone.  She slowly made her way to the studio deck and flopped down for a rest.  Inspector Goot the cat was 'cat-napping' on the corner of the deck.  He opened one eye then went back to sleep.  The two lay there, snoozing away!

I have another story to tell you about Gertrude.  Did you know that groundhogs can climb trees?  They have long, very thick and strong toenails.  In fact, they are almost like steel claws that are used for digging, shredding wood and for...climbing trees.  The other day, something scared Gertrude.  She could not run home so she took a running jump onto the trunk of the crab apple tree and within seconds she climbed to an upper branch.  From there, she peeked down for a while; then, not seeing or hearing any danger, she climbed down, head first.

OK Kids, that's it for this issue of Critter Chatter.  See you next time......mm......

Misty Mouse's Cheese Recipe Print E-mail
Misty Mouse has a cheese recipe for you.  However, as Inspector Goot, I beg to differ with Misty's recipe.   Hairs, sticks and mud does not make a good cheese recipe.  The best cheese you can eat is good American cheese.  You buy it at the market, or, as some of you may say, the grocery store.
